Baby Skylar has been home for just over a week now and I think I’m starting to get the hang of feeding, burping, and nurturing the little one, but there are still a ton of things I’m still trying to figure out. Sleeping, for instance… Sigh… Here, nevertheless, is another Baby Lesson installment for you.
**Baby Lesson #2
Never underestimate the swaddle!
Yup, the swaddle. That age-old technique of wrapping your baby so tight that they actually think they’re still inside mommy’s womb! If you’re an expecting father (or mother) and you don’t know how to properly swaddle a baby, I suggest you head on over to Wikipedia right now and figure it out because this strange wrapping is like an “off” button for little baby’s crying.
Don’t ask me how it works so well to quiet a screaming, crying, trashing baby, but damn it, it does! You wrap that baby up in the swaddle, tight as can be (they can’t really even move their arms or legs in there) and that baby is not only snug as a bug, but they’re suddenly happy as hell. They absolutely love it. Who knew?
So here’s to the swaddle. It keeps baby quiet, makes it easy to feed them, and puts them right to sleep like a shot of Robitussin. I’m serious. Never (and I mean NEVER) underestimate the power of the swaddle!
