I’m more than proud to announce that my first novel, Jimmy Stone’s Ghost Town is NOW available on Amazon.com for special introductory price of only $0.99!!

Here’s a look at the amazing cover art created by Justin Gaynor.

If you have a Kindle, an iPad, an iPhone, a PC, a Mac, or about a hundred other mobile devices, you can read any Kindle book including Jimmy Stone’s Ghost Town.

Thank you as well to the awesome Lara Zielin (Author of Donut Days and The Implosion of Aggie Winchester for her fantastic blurb! Here’s what she says about the book: “This spooky tale is told with Scott Neumyer’s trademark wit and insight. Ghost towns are fraught with danger, but Neumyer makes them irresistibly appealing with the help of Jimmy Stone.”

And, finally, if you want the official description for the book (since it’s still so new on the Amazon site, the description hasn’t even been posted yet on the product page) here it is:

For Jimmy Stone, life in “Boredsylvania” has been pretty tough. His mom’s died, his dad’s completely checked out, and he spends his days running from the Coogan Boys, the local bullies. It isn’t long, however, before “Boredsylvania” gets a lot more exciting. With his new friend, David and his dog, Trex, by his side, Jimmy discovers that the woods beyond his backyard hold the key to a world he could never even imagine. Soon, he ends up in Ghost Town, where he’s greeted by his ghost guide, Gasp, and receives an ominous prophecy.

“Seven things you must find.
One thing for each day.
Seven things you must find.
Or else they all will pay!

Suddenly Ghost Town becomes as scary as it sounds, and Jimmy Stone realizes that he’s in way over his head.

That’s all! Check the previous post for a look at the book’s teaser trailer and if you want to grab a copy on Amazon, here’s the direct link: http://amzn.to/jimmystone.

Thanks again to everyone!!

Let’s get right into it: The Friday Five!

1) I’ve been banned from Twittering by my good buddy Dave White until I finish my Middle Grade novel. Granted, it’s for my own good but man am I itching to tweet!

2) The good news is that I’m making GREAT progress and probably only have about 7,000 more words or so to write. I’m hoping to finish it this weekend!

3) Carrie Ryan’s THE FOREST OF HANDS AND TEETH has been fast-tracked for Hollywood! This is awesome news for several reasons, but mostly because…well… It’s about zombies!!

4) I got my wife the BEST Mother’s Day gift for her first Mother’s Day. Trust me on this. Wait until I can show it to you.

5) I got True Blood: The Complete First Season on Blu-ray in the mail today. Can’t wait to watch it again with all the extra features!

Wish me luck finishing the novel this weekend!!

I just have to say that I’m pretty damn proud of myself. I’ve written 5,657 words on my Middle Grade novel since Thursday. I’ve written at least 1,000 every single day except for Saturday, on which I wrote 500 before I went to a friend’s wedding. I had every intention of writing 500 more after we got home, but I literally fell asleep with the laptop on my lap.

So I decided to make up for it yesterday by banging out over 2,000 words! That was the goal and I actually did it!

Writers often say that “ass in chair” works, but I’ve never realized just how well until I put my nose to the grindstone and did it. The story is flowing now, and everything seems to be coming together pretty well. I’m excited that the middle grade novel is almost done!

I also have to say a HUGE thanks to Dave White, Lauren Barnholdt, and Keri Mikulski. Not only have they all read the thing at some point, but they’ve been great friends pushing me along. Dave put the May 7th deadline to me, and Lauren has been busting my ass to write at least 1,000 words a day. You guys all rock!

Now, back to writing. Enough packing myself on the back. Ha!

I figured, since my very old blog is no longer up and running, that it was time to repost this short story I wrote for Hobart Pulp. Nevetheless, reading it again… I actually still dig this story. Let me know what you think.

“Pastime”

A friend of mine, who was old enough to be my father, invited me to a minor league baseball game.

It was perfect baseball weather. When we reached the stadium I thought we’d find our seats and wait until the game started, but after getting our tickets ripped and walking up the stairs to the concourse area, I followed my friend as he led me around the building. It was small and intimate, nothing like the big ballparks. “It’s about the family here,” he told me. “I got my season tickets when they first opened, about five years ago,” he said. “Two seats, right behind the owners.”

“You can’t get better seats than that,” I said. “Unless you’re the owners.” We both laughed and he nodded in agreement.

“I used to bring my dad here.”

“Oh,” I said and looked out onto the field busy with men raking and laying chalk for the baselines. We kept walking around by the concessions.

“I’m hungry,” he said. “You want something?”

“No, thanks,” I told him. “I ate on the way to your house.”

“You can eat at a ballgame,” he said.

“I know,” I said and stood behind him in line as he ordered a pork sandwich.

“How about a beer?” He placed the sandwich on the beer cart. “My treat.”

“No, really. I’m good for now.”

“You sure?”

“Yeah, I’m good.”

He grabbed his beer and his sandwich and we found our seats, two rows from the field, right behind the owners. The men finished raking the field. It looked clean, like a new plate waiting for dinner.

I sat through the first pitch ceremonies and watched my friend eat his pork sandwich out of the corner of my eye. He seemed pleased with it and washed the food down with a guzzle of beer.

After a few innings the score was in our favor and we sat back in our chairs and watched as the home team thrilled the crowd with a homerun. It was then that I noticed that my friend’s beer cup was empty.

“I’m going to get something to drink,” I said. “You want anything?”

“No,” he told me. “I’ll get something in a few innings. Besides, this is my treat. A little thanks for your help during the season, when everything happened and I couldn’t be there.” He reached for his wallet, but by the time I imagine he’d turned around to hand me some money, I was gone.

I came back down the aisle as the home team turned a double play to end the inning. My friend was already standing and clapping so I squeezed past him to my seat as everyone sat back down.

“Thirsty?” he asked as he noticed a beer in each of my hands.

“Not really,” I said and handed him a beer because I knew it was what he wanted.

“A toast,” I said, “to baseball.”

“To baseball,” we said and we tapped our cups and drank until they were empty and the game was over and I knew my friend was happier than he’d been in a while.
